Silent Night – Sainte Nuit
A bilingual version of this beautiful Christmas Classic
From the album: Take Me To The North Pole
Album Release: Nov. 12, 2019
The curator of a parish in Overendorf Austria, Joseph Moore gave a poem he had written to a friend of his Farns Gruber, who was also the coir master and organist at that church.
He asked Mr. Gruber if he would write music for his poem and for two solo voices and guitar accompaniment because the organ was broken and he desperately wanted music to be part of their Christmas Eve. service. Mr. Gruber wrote the melody to a song which would become the most beloved of all Christmas Carols. Francine is performing this song in both English and in French, her mother tongue!
Silent Night-Sainte Nuit
Franz Xaver Gruber and Joseph Mohr
Silent Night, Holy Night, All is calm, all is bright,
’round yon virgin, mother and child, Holy infant so tender and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.
Douce nuit, sainte nuit ! Dans les cieux ! L’astre luit.
Le mystère annoncé s’accomplit, Cet enfant sur la paille endormi.
C’est l’amour infini ! C’est l’amour infini !
Silent night, Holy night, Son of God, Love’s pure light,
radiant beams from Thy Holy face, with the dawn of re-deeming grace.
Jesus, Lord at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.
Douce nuit, sainte nuit !
C’est l’amour infini !
Sleep in heavenly peace..

Hi Terry Ann,
I actually only spoke French until I was in grade 1 😉
Silent night was amazing. So peaceful and prayerful.
Francine that was soooo amazing. So peaceful and prayerful
Thank YOU Sheila! That is what we were aiming for! Glad we succeeded!
Francine’s Mom Claudette is French! We have know them since they moved to Tweed many years ago! My very favourite Christmas Carol is Silent Night.
Merci pour les cadeaux de chanson à nous Francine
Off course it’s FRENCH ….
Very nice Francine. Sounds so sweet, Love that you sang part of the song in French, nice touch!
As it happens, “Silent Night” IS my favorite traditional carol, Francine, so it is especially sweet to hear you sing it in your native French ~ for me growing up though? It was in German! (attended Missouri Synod Lutheran church & school growing up through elementary school & continued “Lutheran” through my high school years as well)
Thank you Nancy. Do you still speak German? So glad to hear this is your favourite!
Silent night. And French for Francine mothers tongue. Love the mix. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
What can I say.. so very nice
Ah…thank you Gordon
