Life In The Big City: Music Can Be Found Everywhere

Move To Toronto

Since I moved to Toronto in April, there have been many times when I wondered what I had done – I felt like a stranger in my own skin.

Speaking of skin, I have had many rashes, with much redness, as my body got used to all of the environmental differences… the change in water, air and, yes, smog, and the heat – and just the drastic change as all added up. It has been very exciting and despite all of the complaints I have received from my body and my skin, I feel as though I am finally settled and now know that it was the right thing to move to Toronto.

Street Pianos

I am happy to say that I love my new job and am finding that there is a lot of nature in Toronto. I love the subway system and am amazed at how people will run to catch the train when there is another one in only 2 more minutes. It really makes me smile when I see these people just rushing everywhere knowing how long it used to take me to get a bus in Ottawa. The process that happens when boarding the Spadina Streetcar is something I plan on filming someday. The calls made from the rear doors to the driver to ensure everyone gets packed in as tightly as possible and that no one gets jammed in the doors and to keep things moving is becoming a comforting daily predictable routine.

And let’s not forget the music! I am finding musicians everywhere and they now have placed pianos around Toronto to be played. I came across one last Sunday during a walk along the beach at Lakeshore and a jazz musician was playing. Wonderful. There are a few places I will be checking out soon.

I picked up my guitar for the first time only 2 weeks ago. It felt wonderful and I feel a writing phase coming. Now that I am feeling more settled, I will have more time to keep you all up to date on my progress and where I am playing.
