Song Lyrics

Mamas Take Bad Dreams Away
©Francine Honey (SOCAN)

My little boy with bright blonde hair,
Sitting on the stair
His blanket trailing on the floor,
Holding his teddy bear

Said that he’d been woken up,
by bad men in his dreams
Sucked his thumb, his eyes real wide
 Looking at me, he believes

Chorus:
Mamas can always take bad dreams away
A touch and embrace, A kiss upon the face
How I wish
Mamas really could take bad dreams away

Years later, that full grown man,
 stood crying at my door
Garbage bags filled with clothes.
He didn’t mean to impose

Somehow he got taken, That girl crushed his heart
Gave himself away to her, Now he’s right back at the start

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:
My love and prayers can’t always heal his wounds
I feel helpless and alone
My own mother’s voice echoes in my head
Tell him time heals all hurts,
start by taking one step ahead

Repeat Chorus

  1. Big surprise! Lol! This song made me cry!
The timing is unbelievable! My son Kasey is turning 12 Oct.10th. He is no longer a boy now, but a cool dude! Of course I will always see him as my baby boy even when he becomes a man.
The last 2 months have been difficult emotionally for my son. Due to his father’s erratic up and down behaviour, amongst other things… Kasey has made a solid decision that he no longer wants to see him. I knew this day would eventually come. Of course its not so easy for a child to make that decision and these things need to be resolved through the courts.
He is so strong and I am so proud of him! As his mother I am there to guide and support him and most importantly protect him!! Kasey is my angel. I would not be here today if it weren’t for him. He gave me a reason to get up everyday when I had lost all hope, in my darkest days. And for that, I am eternally grateful! I love him so much and will always be there for him when he needs me!
Thank you my beautiful son! You inspire me everyday! I am so proud of you!

And thank you Francine for this beautiful song!!
    Love you! Big hugs!

    1. Wow Britt. Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you are both going through a transition time. You are a very dedicated mother and the two of you form your own unique family. I am so touched by your comments. Hang in there…xo Francine

  2. Another great hit. I’m with my mom, your aunt and godmother. Mom loved to see you on the video and you made her proud. She said you are so gentle and so pretty! I still need my mama and she’s 90 years old and also happy to be a mother. As Collin’s mom passed away a few weeks ago, this is a very special song. Sandy died suddenly at age 77. Hugs and kisses! Thank you for sharing this beautiful chapter of your life with us. XX

    1. Thanks for sharing this ma tante! So glad to hear you got to spend some time with her and so heart sick about the passing of Sandy. WOW. I am so sorry for your loss. Big hugs to Collin and the entire family. Xo Francine

  3. I am not a mom, have never had my own child but I do have nieces, nephews and two great nieces who I was very close to not too long ago.
I felt like a mom to my youngest great niece who is six years old now, I watch her most weekends from the age of six months when her mom was ill with an infectious diesease and could not be near her. I became so close to her until this past June when her mom said that apparently I called her new boyfriend a “loser” yet I have no recollection of that and the result was that I can no longer see my great niece or have communication with her. Not being a mother I don’t know the feeling of a mother’s love, but not seeing this little girls make my heart ache day and night and shed many tears.
So this song reminds me of the nights she would have bad dreams and i would hold her and tell her everything was fine and “tia” was here with her.
Your songs have been such an inspiration to me and I have love listening to them, some have made me sad, but I believe it is part of a healing period.
Thank you for the beautiful lyrics in your music.

    1. So sorry to hear this. I am sure you had a positive influence on her and perhaps she will re-connect with you as an adult. You never know what will happen. Thanks for sharing your story and for listening. Xo francine

  5. Beth Ann Meloche

This song literally touched my soul. Mother’s have such an important role,
unconditional love for our children and so many other people’s children. Love, love, love this song Francine.

  6. Beautiful song Francine. This song really hit home today. I am so grateful to be able to be there for our girls and support them through tough times. I miss having my Mom there for me. We talked every day after I moved away from home.

  7. Omg, Francine are you a psychic? Last night I was up from 11:30 to 01:00 consoling Acacia who was crying for her maman!!!! 😢
I would of needed your song.
She finally fell asleep with the lights on.😌
Keeping my fingers crossed that she will behave for thanksgiving lunch at Jacinthe’s.

Again, great song and that little boy is so cute!
    Bonne journée Francine.
    Gros bisous!

    1. Thanks Lucie. Yes, I am psychic. I predict you will get a good nights sleep when the grandchildren go back. Haha. So glad you liked thie song and thanks for sharing!

  8. beautiful Francine!…mamas always wish they could keep their children form pain and hurt…love…it’s all we have… and it is all!
So enjoying your presentations…engaging and beautifully done!

    1. Thank so much for the comment Martha. So much appreciated. I am so thrilled that you are all enjoying the music and way I am rolling it out. Xo Francine

  9. Took me back, Francine, made me feel nostalgic ~ those days of Mama “kiss it & make it better”? those days of all the cousins being at all the family gatherings? of being young enough to have crushes on cousins? (maybe even a “kissin’ cousin” ? LOL (with a tear coming as well, remembering, since THAT cousin is gone now)

So enjoy, besides all your great songs & stories, the presentation method ~ so beautifully done & effective (e.g. the “flip” frames highlighting contest placements), the lyrics, videos & background video stories & still shots.

You’ve done (with wisely chosen associates) a bangup job!!!

    1. Thanks for the lovely comments and for sharing those crazy stories! Yes, I have had some wonderful people helping me realize my vision for the roll-out!

  10. Instant tears! My Mom is dying of terminal pancreatic cancer and this will be played many times from now on as I go through the process.
    Thanks for your beautiful words

    1. Oh Jill! So sorry to hear what you are going through. I am so humbled to know that this song has touched you! Hugs to you…Francine

This song has touched me the most! So much so I heard myself say out loud “I want my mommy”. It’s a long personal story and I will share with you someday.

This song is also your best performance so far. Way to go Francine!

  12. Oh my, this hits home cause no matter how old my kids are I still feel the need to take care of them when they are hurting or not feeling well. I just want to take their pain away cause I feel it so strong in my heart. This little boy looks like David when he was little. Beautiful song!
