Hold On… A song of Hope and Resilience

And just when you feel that you are falling and you aren’t sure how you will get yourself out of a funk, something happens.  A friend calls, someone does something kind and it means everything.  I was contacted by Dr. Paul Wong who sent me a poem that he had written about that very subject.  How does one keep going?  How does one find joy amidst sadness and grief.  He asked me if I would work with him to create a theme song for his upcoming conference on personal meaning.  I had met Dr. Wong years earlier at a conference that I attended with my “Honey”.

So we met and I took some of his other poems and writings and we created a theme song for the conference.  I loved this song so much, that I asked Dr. Wong, if I could make a few changes and create my own version to include my belief in the healing power of music.  The power of a song to heal a broken heart and to take us out of our depths. Dr.Wong had the line  “we are made of stardust” and our souls “can reach beyond the stars” and those lines resonated deeply for me given my interest in astrophysics and my work as a healer.  We all must dig deep to find what we are truly made of, to “hear that small voice whisper” to our forgotten souls and give us hope.

Song Lyrics

Hold On
© Dr.Paul TP Wong and Francine Honey (SOCAN)

Sing me a sad song over and over
Tell me it’s alright to cry
My heart is broken in a hundred pieces
Can’t stop the tears inside

I’m wandering in a desert
Dragging my feet through the sand
How did I reach this place?
Is this life, in my own hands? So I’ll

Chorus:

Hold On
‘Cause I am made of stardust
My soul can reach beyond the stars
The deeper the valley
The higher the mountain
No  distance is too far
When you hold on to hope

Sing me a sad song, over and over
That tells me I’ll be alright
Opens my heart to look inside
Calms my chattered mind

I want to hear that small voice whisper
To my forgotten soul
They say it’s never too late to start again
What breaks your heart will make you whole

Chorus 2:
Hold on
‘Cause I am made of stardust
My soul can reach beyond the stars
The  deeper the valley
The higher the mountain
No distance is too far
I’ll walk in the dark
So I can see the stars
Shine starlight through my heart
And hold on to hope

Hold on
Hold on, Hold On
Hold on to hope
