Falling Through… A song of grief and support.

I had this melody that was so haunting I had written at the piano.  I would sit and play it for months then one day, I was thinking of my song Space and that “space between me and you” in that song.  In past relationships, I felt as though I lost who I was, I was the one falling through that space.  The song started with that “falling through”.  I would sit at the piano and sing to that melody over and over and wait for what came next.  I wrote lyrics around things I’d witnessed with those in my life who were struggling with their mental health in the past with that same feeling of falling through the cracks.

I had been in Italy with a songwriting friend Joy Newby and I asked her if she would help me finish the song from the perspective of someone who is witnessing someone losing themselves due to mental health challenges as well as what the person supporting and witnessing those challenges goes through.  When we first met, we talked about grief and how challenging it is helping someone through that.  That became the focus of the song.  We sat in Nashville and finished that one word in the song that had been bugging us for a long time the day before it was recorded.

I didn’t really know where that song would fit on any of my albums but I did believe in the song and low and behold, with the pandemic ALL of us were grieving and I think we still are.  Grieving what we lost, and all of us are grieving WHO we lost.  Whether we witnessed others challenges on top of dealing with our own mental wellbeing in dealing with the pandemic, we have all been through this “Falling Through”.  We have all reached out.

Song Lyrics

Falling Through
Francine Honey and Joy Newby (SOCAN)

Medication, Depression,
Weekly Therapy Sessions
Distant, Anchored in your darkness,
Cancelled reservations,
Can’t leave our apartment, you’re

Chorus:
Falling Through, Falling Through
Falling Through
The spaces between me and you

Little pieces, break away
Losing myself, every day
I’m bruised from fighting your fight
My light’s still shining
Yet not as bright, Cause’ I’m

Repeat Chorus
We are tumbling in a spiral,
Twirling in a grieving wind
Please grab my hand,
Let’s try to safely land

Repeat Chorus

Falling

  1. You have always had a connection with you. It’s devine started with Kisses From Heaven. This reminds me of my mother and her battle with Alzheimer’s. This song reminds me of that. Blessings 🙏🙏🙏💞❤️ always.
