Christmas ‘Round My Tree… A song of the true spirit of Christmas

Official Music Video: Dec 7th, 2019

From the album: Take Me To The North Pole
Album Release: Nov. 12, 2019

When I was in my teens, I would go to nursing homes and sing Christmas carols for the elderly.  My heart always sank when I would see some of them there with no family.  Some of them would ask me to just sit with them and spend time with them.  We would sing some carols, play cards and then drink hot chocolate.  As I got older and saw my own family members deal with their first Christmas alone after a loved one passing away, I witnessed the determination to still find a sense of the Christmas tradition and the knowledge that what truly matters is being together and not the gifts you buy.

Song Lyrics

Christmas ‘Round My Tree
Francine Honey © SOCAN

It’s a cold December, snows on the ground
Pull the tree from the garage
The old cardboard box with decorations
Is stuffed with lights and balls

Piled so neatly on top of` it all
Are the gifts my children made
Pull out each one, smile at the memories
Of the joy each one gave

Chorus:
Christmas is here, my favourite time of year
But hard times have hit us all
Don’t need to bring presents, just bring yourself,
Come spend time with me
‘Cause Christmas ‘round my tree
Christmas ‘round my tree is free

I’m widowed now, the kids are all gone
It’ll be my first Christmas alone
Sit here each night, watch TV
With the memories of us here at home

Think I’ll take the bag of wool that I found
Make some hats and mitts for the kids
Cause I’m all done moping around
It’s time to accept what is

Repeat Chorus

Let’s make snow angels, Sing carols
Stir up hot chocolote mix
Christmas ’round my tree
Christmas ’round my tree is free
You know Christmas round my tree is free

Not sure yet about Christmas Day around the tree . . . or even a tree at all . . . missing those big family gatherings, for sure; only logical as the years progress, I guess, & I have a bit of a melancholy side ~ like my mom who always preferred her music in a minor key ~ I so appreciate this song, Francine, feels comfy for missing loved ones who’ve gone on before me.

  3. Ok. I always say that this one is my favourite then I hear another one and then I say that one is my favourite. I really mean it this time. Love love the song and the video. It’s lovely. 💕

  4. Lots gets stirred up here. Hot chocolate mix and lots of memories of the years gone by.
    A very nice song.

  5. Hot chocolate gets stirred…so too do memories, feelings and ultimately, hope, in this song. And it is a beautiful song. Thanks Francine. My tree? Lol. I celebrate Chanukah… but I do enjoy the season with friends and like this song, it isn’t about the dollars spent.

  6. WOW!!!!!
I love this song so much. Might be my new favourite
This year is the 2nd without my Mom and is very hard for all of us.
My family can’t be together anymore for many reasons but this year I have something to look forward to.
Our best friends from England are coming to spend their first Christmas in Canada.

    1. Hi Jill,

Your Mom was amazing and I am sure she is so proud of you and how you are living your life! I am touched that this song might be your new favourite! I wish you all the best for the holidays and having friends with you will help for sure. I am sure that they will love the snow but not the cold so much! Enjoy and wishing you many snowflakes on your eyelashes!

      xo Francine

  7. It’s 3am in Vancouver ( 6 am at home ) as I listen to this,
Very beautiful, and of course a little bit sad Francine….
In one way or another we all walk down that path.
It’s nice to recognize what’s important in life, and you hit it out of the ball park.

    1. Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for your note. Glad to know you made it to Vancouver safely and I wish you well on the next leg of your journey. So glad you enjoyed the song!
